Tape Sculpture & installation Art
Ages: 6th Grade

Visual Resources: Tara Donovan & Mark Jenkins

6th grade students analyzed work by Mark Jenkins, Tara Donovan, and other sculptors. We discussed why artists would use everyday objects and man-made materials to create art. We also shared ideas on why an artist would install their work in a specific site. Students worked in groups and learned how to cast using tape. The 6th graders had to negotiate their roles and communicate to effectively cast their objects.

Once they felt comfortable casting, students worked in new groups to thoughtfully prepare site specific sculptor for the school. They considered what they would want to add to the school if they could and if there was an issue they wanted to raise awareness about.
