Collage Inspired by Romare Bearden
Age: 12-15

Students analyzed work by Harlem Renaissance artists Romare Bearden. We discussed rules of composition. They studied his collage techniques, including overlapping, tearing, juxtaposition found images to create portraits. Students then created self portraits using mixed media. We also analyzed collages by contemporary artists to compare their techniques to Bearden's.
