Jomon pottery: Ancient Japanese ceramics
Age: 5-12

Students learned the history of the Jomon people of Ancient Japan and the significance of pots to their Hunter- Gatherer lifestyle. As a group, we discussed and analyzed the pottery and the Jomon's unique and intricate designs.
To create their own versions of Jomon ceramics, students learned how to create pinch pots and coils with the "scratch and attach" method.  Students also used yarn to create cord markings similar to the Jomon style.
